Sources & methodology

ZazaMap is an editorial directory. We don't scrape competitor aggregators and we don't make things up. Every club entry has at least one public, verifiable source — usually the Basque government association registry, a Google Business listing, or a news/editorial mention. Here's exactly where the data comes from and how we verify it.

Primary sources

  • Basque government association registry (euskadi.eus) — the public registry for all legally registered associations in the Basque Country. Provides exact name, address, registration number (AS/B/...), founding date, and GPS coordinates. This is the gold standard.
  • Google Business public listings — for clubs that have chosen to publish on Google Maps. Provides verified addresses, hours, phone, public photos.
  • Public Instagram / Facebook profiles — bio info only. We do not access private accounts.
  • Independent editorial mentions — Salir.com, academic publications, newspaper coverage. Used for cross-reference and cultural context.

What we don't use

  • Competitor directory aggregators — barcelonaweedmap, shivamap, mejoreshumos, cannabisbcn, weedestiny, zazapass, El Capitán Brand, Weedmaps. Their content is theirs. We may use them to discover that a club exists, but we always re-verify name, address and details from primary sources before listing.
  • Private profiles — Instagram private, Facebook private, Telegram, WhatsApp. We never request membership or scrape gated content.
  • Hearsay or unverified tips— if we can't cite a public source, we don't list it.

Methodology

Each club has a completeness score (1–5) based on how many of these fields we could verify from public sources:

  • Official name
  • Street address
  • Opening hours
  • Membership process
  • Public contact channel (Instagram, phone, email, website)

And a tier:

  • Gold — completeness 5, multiple sources cross-verify all fields, club is currently active
  • Silver — completeness 3–4, primary source verifies the existence and basic info, some fields missing
  • Bronze — completeness 1–2, listed in registry but we lack a current address or proof of activity

Coordinates

Map coordinates come from OpenStreetMap Nominatim and the Mapbox Geocoding API, both fed the public address from our primary sources. Bronze-tier clubs without a verifiable street address are not pinned on the mapuntil we can confirm one — they appear in the directory list with a "location pending" note, but we don't fabricate a coordinate.

Public dataset

The full dataset is available as JSON at /api/clubs. Open data, CORS-enabled, cached at the edge. Use it however you want, but please cite ZazaMap as the source.

Spotted an error?

Email csc@zazamap.comwith the club name, what's wrong, and (if you have it) a public source for the correction. We update within 24 hours during Spannabis week.
